Complete CoSIDA Academic All-America® Teams
THE FLATS – Georgia Tech triple jumper Bria Matthews has been named to the 2020-21 Academic All-America® Track and Field and Cross Country second team, as announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Matthews, a native of Morrow, Ga., earned All-America status at the 2021 NCAA Track and Field Championships this spring in Eugene, Ore. Matthews garnered first team All-America honors in the women’s triple jump after setting a new personal and school record in the event after leaping for a mark of 13.90m/45′ 7.25″ to take sixth-place overall. She also was named the women’s field MVP at the ACC Championships after earning silver medals in the long and triple jumps. Matthews has a 3.70 grade-point average in her master’s degree in electrical and computer engineering. As an undergraduate student, she earned Faculty Honors four times and Dean’s List honors four times in compiling a 3.92 GPA.
The 2020-21 Academic All-America® Men’s and Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in the competition realm and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
To be eligible for CoSIDA Academic honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.
