Massey Secures Spot at NCAA Regional Meet

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Sophomore Simone Parker broke her own school record in the discus today with a NCAA Regional qualifying throw of 161’03 to lead the Georgia Tech track and field teams at the FSU Relays.

Sophomore Brandy Depland tallied two NCAA Regional qualifying marks for the Yellow Jackets in the long jump and triple jump. Depland finished first in the long jump with a mark of 19’09.50″ and second in the triple jump with a tally of 40’11.50″, both personal-records.

Senior Michael Massey posted a NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 6’10.75″.

Junior Shanta Smith also tallied a NCAA Regional qualifying mark in the triple jump with a jump of 42’00.75″.

Junior Dana Rogers posted a NCAA Regional time of 13.40 in the 100 hurdles to lead Tech in the event. Sophomore Andriane Lapsley finished third with a time of 14.18. Lapsley finished second in the 100-meter dash with a NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 11.75.

Junior Holt McPherson and freshman Jennifer Sims tallied first-place finishes for the Yellow Jackets. McPherson posted a time of 10.91 in the 100-meter dash, while Sims finished the 800-meter race in 2:12.40.

The women’s 4×100 meter relay team captured the event with a NCAA Regional qualifying time of 45.02.

Georgia Tech will travel to Gainesville, Fla., for the Florida Relays on March 26-27.
