Junior Steve Marcelle placed third in the discus and fourth in the shot put to lead the Georgia Tech track & field teams on day two of competition at the Penn Relays Friday in Philadelphia, Pa.
Marcelle, the 2009 ACC Outdoor Field Performer of the Year, hit a mark of 183’10” in the discus, third best among competitors in the field. Also competing in the shot put on the day, the Green Bay, Wisc. native hit a distance of 59’3.75″ to claim the fourth-best spot in the championships. Teammate Andy Powlen posted the fifth-best mark in the same event with a mark of 57’00” in the morning slate.
Freshman Mykhail Chambers competed in the high jump for Tech, clearing a seventh-place height of 6’6.75″. Chambers had the fourth-best clearance in the event, but dropped to seventh due to a miss at a lower height.
On the women’s side, freshman Bailey Wagner had a career-best toss of 160’11” in the discus placing fifth.
Freshman Terri Ann Grant placed eighth in the high jump while clearing a height of 5’7.25″. Grant is currently tied for first-place in the conference with a clearance of 5’10” at the Hurricane Invitational in March.
Competition at the Penn Relays will continue Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
