Mahoney Qualifies for Semifinals of 1500 at U.S. Olympic Trials

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Georgia Tech men’s track standout Brendon Mahoney advanced to the semifinals of the 1500 meters with a time of 3:42.49 at the U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials on Thursday night. Mahoney finished 16th, with the top 24 moving on to the finals.

Mahoney, a three-time All-American, finished 10th at the Outdoor NCAA Championships last June in the 1500. The Cumming, Ga., native was tabbed Atlantic Coast Conference Performer of the Year for the indoor and outdoor seasons in 2004.

The semifinals of the 1500 will be on Friday night at 10:40 p.m. ET. Junior Montrell Person will compete in the 110-meter high hurdles for the Yellow Jackets on Saturday, July 17. The qualifying round begins at 3:35 p.m. ET, followed by the quarterfinal round at 5:30 p.m. ET.
