LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Georgia Tech men’s tennis won both matches of a doubleheader against The Citadel on Sunday. Both matches ended in 7-0 victories for the Jackets.
In doubles action, the No. 8 doubles pairing of Andres Martin and Marcus McDaniel were the first to finish with a score of 6-4. No. 2 and 3 Doubles were deadlocked at four with the doubles point still up for grabs. Doubles two went to Louisville 7-5 but Tech immediately grabbed the momentum back on doubles three as Keshav Chopra and Chen Dong took their set point to take a 6-5 lead.
No. 3 doubles would eventually go to Louisville by way of tiebreaker 7-6(6) to give Louisville the doubles point.
Singles action started strong for the Yellow Jackets with Dong taking No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-0 and McDaniel taking No. 2 singles to give the Jackets a 2-1 lead. Louisville would take No. 5 and 6 singles to take back a 3-2 lead.
At this moment, Chopra was at No. 3 singles up one set and tied 5-5 in set two. The match eventually went to a tiebreaker. Chopra was up 6-5 when a close call delayed his victory until he eventually won the tiebreaker to bring the score level at 3-3.
No. 1 singles was the only court remaining, it was in its third set tied at 1-1. Louisville would take the next five games to take the match 6-1 and win overall 4-3.
The White and Gold play their first home ACC match on March 18 against UVA.
