Lewis Tabbed as “NextUp” Administrator

June 13, 2017

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech associate athletics director for finance and administration and former men’s basketball student-athlete Marvin Lewis is one of 13 college athletics administrators tabbed as a College AD NextUp administrator for 2017.

The 13 NextUp recipients (presented by adidas) are senior-level administrators, handpicked by a panel of some of the nation’s most respected athletics directors, who are believed to be ready to become athletics directors themselves. The only limiting factor is that a nominee could not have served as an A.D. previously beyond an interim role.

Lewis has been a member of Georgia Tech’s athletics administration since September 2014. In his role, he serves as Georgia Tech athletics’ chief financial officer, managing the athletics department’s annual budget and overseeing the business office, equipment operations and information technology. He also serves as the sport administrator for the Yellow Jackets’ men’s basketball program and previously served as sport administrator for baseball.

“Marvin is a committed and passionate young professional who has successfully transferred the leadership skills developed as a student-athlete to being a leader in athletic administration and a valuable member of my executive team,” Georgia Tech director of athletics Todd Stansbury said. “As our CFO, his counsel, business acumen, and judgment are invaluable as we navigate the challenging landscape of intercollegiate athletics with innovative solutions. I can think of no one more deserving of the NextUp recognition.”

Prior to coming back to The Flats in ’14, Lewis began his career in college athletics administration with stints as senior associate A.D. for finance and administration at Georgia State (2007-12) and associate A.D. for business at Maryland (2012-14). Before entering the athletics industry, he worked for Frazier & Deeter, LLC, a regional public accounting firm in Atlanta, from 2004-07.

A native of Germantown, Md., Lewis was a four-year starter and two-year captain for Georgia Tech men’s basketball from 2000-04. As a senior in 2004, he helped lead the Yellow Jackets to an appearance in the Final Four and national runner-up finish.

He graduated with honors from Georgia Tech in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in management. After becoming a certified public accountant, he earned a master’s in taxation from Georgia State in 2008.

Other 2017 NextUp recipients include Dan Bartholomae (Oregon State), Julie Cromer Peoples (Arkansas), Graham Neff (Clemson), Stephanie Rempe (Texas A&M) and Fred Smith (Northwestern). The seven remaining NextUp recipients will be announced on Wednesday and Thursday.
