Former Georgia Tech men’s basketball standout Marvin Lewis returned to his alma mater in September 2014 as associate athletics director for finance and administration.

In his role, he serves as Georgia Tech athletics’ chief financial officer, managing the athletics department’s annual budget and overseeing the business office, equipment operations and information technology. He also serves as the sport administrator for the Yellow Jackets’ men’s basketball program, as well as the track and field program, and previously served as sport administrator for baseball.

Lewis has established himself as one of the nation’s most respected young administrators. Most recently, he was named the 2018-19 College Athletic Business Management Association (CABMA) Manager of the Year and was selected to participate in the prestigious NCAA Pathway Program for aspiring athletics directors and conference commissioners in 2019-20.  In June 2014, he was one of 13 administrators named to the CollegeAD NextUp list, which was assembled by a panel of athletic directors.

Lewis returned to The Flats in 2014 after two years at the University of Maryland as the Terrapins’ associate A.D. for business. While at Maryland, he was responsible for planning, preparing and managing the department’s $70 million operating budget, and overseeing the daily operations of the business office as well as serving as the sport administrator for the men’s lacrosse program.

Prior to joining the Maryland staff, he spent nearly five years in downtown Atlanta as senior associate A.D. for finance and administration at Georgia State University. Lewis managed all financial operations of the athletic department and helped to successfully build a start-up football program while at GSU. He was also the sport administrator for nine varsity sports programs.

Before entering college athletics administration, Lewis worked for Frazier & Deeter LLC, a regional public accounting firm in Atlanta, for more than three years.

A native of Germantown, Md., Lewis was a four-year starter and two-year captain for the Yellow Jackets men’s basketball team. As a senior in 2004, he helped lead Georgia Tech to a Final Four appearance. He graduated with honors from Georgia Tech in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in management. After becoming a licensed CPA, Lewis also earned a master’s degree in taxation from Georgia State in 2008.

Lewis has a son, Callen.
