Lewis, Stegemann Named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

Jamal Lewis and Ulrike Stegemann were named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, September 11, 2006.

Lewis was also named Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Back of the Week.

Lewis, a junior from Riverdale, Ga., returned an interception 97 yards for a touchdown as part of Georgia Tech’s dominating defensive effort in the Yellow Jackets’ 38-6 victory over Samford. Lewis’ interception return is the fourth-longest in school history and the longest since Jeff Ford set the Tech record with a 102-yard return vs. Notre Dame in 1969.

Lewis and fellow safety Djay Jones gave Tech two interception returns for touchdowns in the same game for the first time since 1966. Lewis also made five tackles as the Tech defense held Samford to 163 total yards, including just 11 yards rushing, and allowed just nine first downs.

Stegemann, a junior from Schwerin, Germany, was named to the all-tournament team at the University of Kentucky Tournament, helping the Yellow Jackets to a second-place finish. Ulrike finished with 37 kills and 24 digs during the teams three matches. She closed the tournament with a .314 kill percentage and averaged 3.08 kills per game. Ulrike also assisted on eight blocks during the tournament.
