Georgia Tech’s Lauren Sauer was tabbed as the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week after leading the Yellow Jackets to a perfect 3-0 week against conference opponents. In the three match victories over Duke, Florida State and Wake Forest, the junior outside hitter averaged 4.67 kills per game, 1.22 digs per game, 0.78 blocks per game and 0.22 assists per game.
In the first match against Duke, Sauer compiled 12 kills on 25 chances to hit .280. Defensively, she attained five digs and four total blocks (two solo, two assists) to help the Jackets to the 3-0 win over the Blue Devils. Against Florida State, the Huntsville, Ala., native hit .414 while accumulating a team leading 15 kills in Georgia Tech’s 3-0 win over the Seminoles. In game two, down 29-26, Sauer served five straight points to close out the game and complete the Yellow Jacket comeback. In Sunday’s game versus Wake Forest, Sauer once again led all Yellow Jackets with 15 kills. She went on to post a .357 hitting percentage to go along with her six digs, two service aces and two total blocks in the win.
Sauer and the No. 6 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are back in action this week as they host the Georgia Bulldogs on Wednesday and then close out the conference regular season schedule on Saturday at home against Clemson.
