OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Georgia Tech first baseman Kristine Priebe has been named one of 30 candidates for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence — community, classroom, character and competition.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

From the list of 30 candidates, a national media committee will select 10 finalists for the 2011 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award in late March. Those 10 names will then be placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote. Fan balloting will be coupled with votes from coaches and media to determine the recipient of the award. The winner will be announced at the 2011 NCAA Women’s College World Series in June.

Priebe arrived at Georgia Tech in 2010 after transferring from the University of Florida and made an immediate impact. She was a first-team All-ACC selection and second-team All-Southeast region pick helping the Yellow Jackets to a 51-11 record and their eighth straight NCAA Tournament appearance. In 2011, she batted .,375 on opening weekend and had two home runs and six RBI. Both of her home runs ended up being game-winners.
