GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech sophomore Kristen Adkins has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week the league office announced Monday. A native of McKinney, Texas, Adkins was 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA for the 22nd-ranked Yellow Jackets in a weekend sweep of NC State.
Adkins allowed no runs on just five hits and two walks in 14 innings. She also had 12 strikeouts. In game one of the NC State series, Adkins pitched a one-hit shutout with seven strikeouts in Tech’s win. The only hit she gave up was an infield single off her leg. Game two of the series was halted in the sixth inning tied at one Friday night for severe weather. When play resumed the next morning, Adkins entered the game and pitched the final two scoreless innings, but it was her two-out, three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning that gave the Yellow Jackets the win. She came back to hurl a two-hit shutout in the series finale later that afternoon. Adkins held the Wolfpack to a .116 average on the weekend and is now 17-6 this season with a 1.23 ERA. She is also batting .279 with seven home runs and 26 RBI while not committing an error either in the circle or at third base where she starts when not pitching.
