ATLANTA – Georgia Tech sophomore pitcher/third baseman Kristen Adkins has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference co-softball Player of the Week the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Adkins batted .800 (4-for-5) with a home run and five RBI in the Yellow Jackets’ sweep of UT Martin last Tuesday. Trailing 1-0 in the fifth inning of game one, she hit a two-out, two-run home run which proved to be the game-winner. It was the first home run and RBI for the transfer from Florida in a Georgia Tech uniform.
In game two, the McKinney, Texas native was 3-for-3 with three more RBI. Adkins entered the day with a .116 batting average but raised it more than 100 points. She also picked up the win in the circle of the night cap, allowing just one run on one hit in five innings.
The Yellow Jackets continue their spring break homestand this week with a pair of mid-week doubleheaders. Tech welcomes Western Carolina on Tuesday at 2 p.m. and then Winthrop Wednesday at Noon. The Jackets will then open up ACC play with a three-game series at Virginia Tech this weekend. Live audio and stats of all games this season are available at www.ramblinwreck.com, free of charge.
