Kirillov Earns All-America Honors At NCAA Track Championships

EUGENE, Ore. –
Georgia Tech junior Nikita Kirillov tied for 13th overall Wednesday in the men’s pole vault, earning second team All-America honors at the NCAA Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus.

Kirillov logged a mark of 5.40m (17-8.50) to tie with Washington’s Jax Thoirs and earn second-team NCAA All-America honors in his first career trip to the national meet. The junior passed the first two rounds of 5.10m and 5.25m on the first tries. It took him two tries to clear 5.40m and he didn’t clear the bar set at 5.50m (18-00.50).

Sam Kendricks of Mississippi won the event (5.70m; 18-8.25), followed by Shawn Barber of Akron (5.65m; 18-6.50) and Jake Blankenship of Tennessee (5.55m; 18-2.50).

Kirillov punched his ticket to the finals after a third-place showing and a height of 5.32m (17-5.50) in the preliminaries.

Also for Georgia Tech, Julienne McKee placed 20th in the long jump with a distance of 6.09m (19-11.75).  McKee, who will also compete in the triple jump on Friday at 6:25 p.m. ET, leaped to a distance of 6.25m (20-6.25) in the long jump to place sixth at the NCAA East Preliminaries.

Jeremy Greenwald runs the 1,500-meter semifinals on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. ET with the finals set for Saturday at 5:18 p.m. ET. Greenwald earned his first career trip the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:45.79 and a top-five place in his heat in the preliminaries.

Jonathan Gardner wraps up the Jackets’ time in Eugene with the men’s triple jump Saturday at 3:30 p.m.  The Chicago, Ill., native placed seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 15.86m (52-0.50) to earn a trip to his second career NCAA Outdoor Championships.

ESPN Networks will cover every day of the meet, with Thursday being broadcast on ESPN3, starting at 6:55 p.m. ET. Events on Friday and Saturday will be broadcast live ESPNU starting at 7:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., respectively.
