Kindel and Lever Named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

Jeff Kindel and Caitlin Lever were named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, May 22, 2006.

Kindel, a senior from Marietta, Ga., hit .500 (8-for-16) with three home runs and 10 RBI to lead Georgia Tech to a 3-1 record last week against Wofford and Miami. Kindell added two doubles and scored eight runs while posting a 1.188 slugging percentage and a .579 on base percentage. On Tuesday, Kindel went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a home run and a career-high five RBI in Tech’s 16-2 win over Wofford. On Friday in Tech’s 14-5 win over Miami, Kindel recorded the first two home run game of his career. He finished 2-for-4 with three RBI. Kindell added two hits and a RBI in the series finale versus the Hurricanes on Saturday, leading the Yellow Jackets to the series win.

Lever, a junior from Amherst, NY, led the Yellow Jackets to their second straight NCAA Regional Championship Game this past weekend in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Lever drove in a run and went 1-for-4 in Tech’s opening round win over No. 3 seed Florida A&M, 9-3, on Friday. Against top-seeded and No. 4 Alabama, Lever smacked a three-run home run and finished the game 3-for-3, with four runs batted in, as the Jackets fell 8-5 on Saturday. Later that night, Lever helped the Jackets advance to the title game with a 10-7 win over the Lady Rattlers, going 1-for-4. In the championship game against the Crimson Tide, she finished 1-for-2, with a walk in a Tech 7-2 defeat. Lever ended the season on a seven-game hitting streak, batting .462 for the regional tournament, with one home run, five RBIs, one double and three walks. She posted a .769 slugging percentage and .563 on base percentage for the Jackets.
