Kimpel to Compete at Phillips 66 National Championships

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech rising senior Alex Kimpel will compete this week at the 2017 Phillips 66 National Championships held at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI from June 27-July 1 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Kimpel will swim in the 200 meter breaststroke event on Wednesday, June 28, the 50 meter breaststroke on Thursday, June 29, and the 100 meter breaststroke on Friday, June 30.

This past season, Kimpel recorded a new career-best mark of 53.73 in the 100 breast at the 2017 ACC Championships. He also posted the second-fastest time for the Yellow Jackets on the season in the 100 breast (53.73), 200 breast (1:55.76) and the 200 IM (1:48.38) events and totaled 21 top-10 finishes on the season overall, highlighted by a first-place finish in the 200 breast (2:07.32) at the double-dual meet with BC and Pitt. He also placed ninth overall in the 200 breast (1:55.76) at the 2017 ACC Championships and 14th overall in the 100 breast (53.73) at the conference meet. The junior finished the season with the 10th-best time in the ACC in the 200 breast (1:55.76).

The meet will also serve as the World Championship Trials meet.
