ATLANTA – Georgia Tech freshman shortstop Kelsi Weseman (Hutto, Texas) has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Weseman batted .652 (15-for-23) in seven games last week as the Yellow Jackets went 6-1 and are now 21-7 on the season. She scored 11 runs while hitting six doubles, two home runs and six RBI. Weseman compiled a 1.174 slugging percentage and a .704 on-base percentage. In the doubleheader sweep against Virginia Tech (March 21) on Saturday, Weseman was on base seven times in 10 plate appearances and scored all seven of those times. In a 10-1 win over Western Carolina (March 17), Weseman hit her first career home run.

For the season, Weseman is second in the ACC batting .432. She has 11 doubles, two triples, two home runs and 19 RBI. She has struck out just five times in 74 at bats and compiled a .716 slugging percentage and a .533 on-base percentage.

The Yellow Jackets will open up a seven-game homestand with a doubleheader against Georgia Southern on Tuesday. Game one will begin at 3 p.m. The Georgia Tech Softball team and the Atlanta Chapter of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation have partnered together in an effort to raise awareness and funds to help fight the cause of breast cancer. The Yellow Jackets will host the second annual “Strikeout for the Cure” during both Georgia Southern games.

Parents, fans, businesses and coworkers may pledge amounts for every strikeout Yellow Jacket pitchers record against Georgia Southern. Flat donations will also be accepted and 100% of the money raised will go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
