Kate Kantor Returns to The Flats as Softball Volunteer Assistant Coach

July 3, 2017

THE FLATS – Former Georgia Tech softball standout, Kate (Kuzma) Kantor joins the Georgia Tech softball staff as a volunteer assistant coach as announced by head coach Aileen Morales on Monday.

“Kate was a core member of the most successful class in GT softball history, compiling an ACC Championship in each of her four seasons as well as hosting a super regional,” said Morales. “It has made me proud to watch her develop as a coach these past years and gain experience throughout the ACC.

“I have a tremendous amount of respect for Kate and her husband, Mike, so having the opportunity to bring them back home to the GT softball family is humbling. Kate is a person of great character and I am excited for the opportunity to now work with her.”

Kantor spent the last year as an assistant softball coach at Duke University, working with catchers and outfielders defensively and with hitters offensively. She worked heavily with recruiting, coordinating communication and scheduling with recruits.

Prior to joining the Duke staff, Kantor was a graduate assistant in athletic event management and a graduate assistant softball coach at The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill while earning her Master of Arts in Exercise and Sport Science. As a graduate assistant coach, Kantor served as the tournament director for several tournaments including the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

“I would like to thank Aileen Morales and Georgia Tech’s administration for the opportunity to coach at my alma mater and return home to The Flats,” said Kantor. “During my time as a Yellow Jacket, Coach Morales played an integral part in shaping me into a competitive college athlete and the person that I am today. I couldn’t think of anyone better to work with and continue to learn from as a coach going forward.

“I’m excited to return and invest in the program that has already given me so much, and I look forward to joining forces with the coaching staff to further define Georgia Tech softball culture and continuing the winning traditions with the Georgia Tech family.”

Kantor also interned with the Atlantic Coast Conference office as a brand and marketing intern from 2013-14. She also was an intern with the Georgia Tech Christian Campus Fellowship, working with freshman relations, promotion and brand marketing.

As a player, Kantor, then Kuzma, was a standout athlete on The Flats. She was a member of three regular season ACC Championships (2009, 2010 and 2011) and three ACC Tournament Championships (2009, 2010 and 2012). A two-time all-ACC, all-ACC tournament and all-region selection, Kantor reached the NCAA Tournament all four years on The Flats and reached the school’s only NCAA Super Regional in 2009. She was also a team captain for her junior and senior campaigns.
