THE FLATS – The National Football League officially announced on Wednesday that Georgia Tech alumnus Juanyeh Thomas (Niceville, Fla./Niceville) has been invited to participate in the 2022 NFL Combine, which will be held March 1-7 in Indianapolis.
The NFL Combine is the league’s premier annual showcase for NFL Draft prospects. Thomas is one of 61 defensive backs and 324 total prospects invited to participate in this year’s Combine. Combined with punter Pressley Harvin III being honored as a 2021 Combine invitee (the actual 2021 event was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic), Georgia Tech will be represented at the Combine in back-to-back years for the first time since 2016-17. Additionally, Thomas is the Yellow Jackets’ first non-specialist to receive a Combine invite since defensive lineman Adam Gotsis and defensive back D.J. White in ’16 (kicker Harrison Butker represented Tech at the 2017 NFL Combine).
Thomas played in 47 games during his four seasons at Georgia Tech (2018-21) and started 32-of-33 games at safety over his final three seasons with the Jackets, including 27-consecutive starts to close his career. He finished with 215 tackles and four interceptions during his collegiate career, including 81 stops (third on the team), an interception and six pass breakups during his final season in 2021. He also set five school records and earned freshman all-America status as true freshman in 2018, when he returned two kickoffs (77 and 100 yards) and an interception (95 yards) for touchdowns.
Last Thursday, Thomas started at strong safety for the East in the 2022 East-West Shrine Bowl in Las Vegas. He made a pair of tackles at the goal line to thwart a scoring opportunity for the West.
