THE FLATS – Head coach MaChelle Joseph has announced that Jonneshia Pineda has joined the Georgia Tech women’s basketball staff as a graduate manager.
“I am humbled for this opportunity to be a graduate manager for MaChelle Joseph and for the Georgia Tech women’s basketball team,” Pineda said. “I think Georgia Tech is a great place. Both the women’s basketball program and the academics here have developed a culture that doesn’t compare anywhere else. I want to thank Georgia Tech, Coach Jo and every young woman on her team for accepting me into the Yellow Jacket family. It’s truly a blessing.”
Pineda has a strong basketball background, which includes playing, coaching, skills training and counselor experience. She is no stranger to the Georgia Tech women’s basketball program, having served as a video intern for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons.
“JP has been a great addition to a very talented staff,” Joseph said. “Her maturity and work ethic are having an instant impact on our program. I am very excited for our players to have someone with JP’s positive energy around every day.”
Pineda played two seasons of college basketball at Pear River Community college where she graduated in 2009 with an associate’s degree in arts and science. She led the team in points and assists, was the team captain and named a Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges All-Star.
The Smyrna, Ga., native then went on to play two seasons at Georgia Southwestern where she was named captain. She was honored on the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and was on the 2010 and 2011 PBC Presidential Honor Roll. Pineda graduated in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in business. Pineda was then invited to the WNBA Combine during the 2013 Women’s Final Four in New Orleans. In 2011, she participated in the WBCA’s “So You Want to Be a Coach” program.
Pineda coached the Pebblebrook Jr. Basketball program for the 2011-12 season, leading the team to the best record in program history (20-6) and to the CCJBC Postseason Tournament.
Pineda was the director at former Yellow Jacket Alex Montgomery’s Elite Camp. She also has been a camp counselor at many camps, including Matthew Mitchell’s UK Hoops Basketball camp, and was a skills trainer at the FutureStars Evaluation Camp. Pineda has also recently been involved in the FBC Elite Motton Basketball Program as an assistant coach and skill development trainer and with the JSportz247 Player Development.
