THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s tennis junior Kenya Jones received an at-large bid to the 2019 NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championships as the subcommittee announced on Tuesday the 64 singles players selected to compete. This marks the second NCAA Singles Championship for the Yellow Jacket.
The singles and doubles competition will take place May 20-25 on the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla., after the conclusion of the team championships, which runs May 16-19. Jones is seeded top 16 in the tournament.
Jones, ranked No. 8 in the country in the latest ITA national polls, has led Tech from the No. 1 singles position all season long. The All-ACC first team selection boasts a 28-11 overall singles ledger, including a 15-6 dual singles mark and an 11-3 record in ACC play. She went 9-6 in dual singles play against nationally ranked players, including pocketing a pair of victories over top-10 opponents to close the regular season.
Last season, Jones entered the NCAA Singles Championship as an alternate and has competed twice in the NCAA Doubles Championship (2017, 2018).
Georgia Tech kicks off the team portion of the NCAA Championship on Friday against Ohio State at 1 p.m. Vanderbilt will serve as the host for the regional for first- and second-round action.
