THE FLATS – Georgia Tech senior defensive back Isaiah Johnson has been named ACC Defensive Back of the Week, announced Monday by the conference office.
He is the fourth Yellow Jacket to earn an ACC weekly honor this season. Sophomore QB Justin Thomas and sophomore LB P.J. Davis earned mention on Sept. 22 following the Virginia Tech and senior RG Shaquille Mason on Oct. 6 after the Miami victory.
Johnson recorded a career-high-tying 14 tackles, including eight solo stops, and both forced and recovered a fumble in Georgia Tech’s 56-28 road win at Pitt. Johnson was part of the Georgia Tech defense that forced six Pitt fumbles – tied for the most by a Tech opponent in school history.
The Tyrone, Ga., native now ranks third on Georgia Tech’s career tackles list (253) by a defensive back. It is Johnson’s second career ACC weekly honor. He was named ACC Defensive Back of the Week on Sept. 26, 2011.
Georgia Tech (6-2, 3-2) hosts ACC Coastal Division foe Virginia (4-4, 2-2) for its 66th Homecoming Game on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
