GREENSBORO, N.C. –The Georgia Tech track and field team wrapped up day one at the NCAA East Preliminaries Thursday at Irwin Belk Track inside of Aggie Stadium on the campus of North Carolina A&T. The top 12 in each event qualify for the NCAA Championships June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore.
On the track, Brandon Lasater qualified for the quarterfinals with a time of 1:50.90 in the 800 meters. The quarterfinals will be held Friday night at 7:15 p.m.
Zack Fanelty followed in his footsteps in 30th place (1:50.91) and Cole Jackob took 39th 1:52.55.
Aaron Unterberger placed 16th in the pole vault and reached a height of 5.15m (16-10.75).
Also in the field events, Julienne McKee placed 14th in the long jump with a leap of 6.06m (19-10.75). Jhanelle McLeod took 25th (5.95m; 19-6.25), followed by Jasmine Kent in 37th (5.73m; 18-9.75) and Donjhae Jones in 46th (5.28m; 17-4).
Broderick Snoddy ran the 100 meters in 10.71 for 46th and Jeremy Greenwald completed the 1500 meters in 3:50.95 for 36th place.
Katie Townsend crossed the finish line in the 10,000 meters in a time of 36:39.01.
The Jackets continue action Saturday at the NCAA East Preliminaries with the jumps. Jonathan Gardner will take part in the men’s triple jump (1 p.m.), and McKee and McLeod will take on their second events of the week in the women’s triple jump at 5:30 p.m.
