NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Georgia Tech track and field torched 10 career bests on Saturday at the Commodore Invitational.

“The woman had a strong meet today,” said women’s track and field head coach Alan Drosky. “We saw really good effort throughout, and we’re pleased with the progress we see in the team. Almost half of all our performances today were career bests, that’s outstanding and a tribute to the work the women put in every week.”

Sophomore Amy Ruiz registered a career-best time of 10:06.79 in the 3000-meter run. Charlotte Stephens also recorded a career best in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:13.49. Melissa Fairey and Hailey Gollnick both recorded career-best times in the one mile of 5:05.78 and 5:05.87, respectively.

Sophomore Lindsey Wheeler posted a career best in the 800m, notching a time of 2:17.04. Kenya Collins grabbed a fourth-place finish for the Yellow Jackets with a season-best time of 8.37 in the 60–meter hurdles.

“Day two of the Commodore Invitational was another effort by the Georgia Tech men’s track team,” said men’s track and field head coach Grover Hinsdale. “For the second week in a row I was very pleased with the effort and competitiveness of this team. However, the standout performer of the day was Ben Jean who was 6th in the 400m with a lifetime best performance of 47.99 and ran a great split on our 4x400m Relay team.”

On the men’s side, freshman Benjamin Jean led the way with a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter dash in his first time racing the event collegiately. Sophomore Avery Bartlett recorded a career-best time of 8:30.87 in the 3000-meter run. Andres Littig posted a career best in the mile with a time of 4:17.53. Alex Grady also notched a career-best finish in the one mile, posting a time of 4:18.64. In the men’s triple jump, William Solomon registered an indoor career best with a mark of 14.01m.

The Yellow Jackets return to Nashville next weekend, Jan. 20-21, for the Vanderbilt Invitational.
