THE FLATS – Georgia Tech track & field is traveling to Virginia Tech this weekend to compete at the Doc Hale Elite Meet on Feb. 4-5.
One notable athlete who will not be at the meet is Nicole Fegans. The eight-time school record holder was invited to compete in the elite women’s 3000m at the JDL Camel City Invitational on Saturday. The event is invitational only and features the best collegiate runners and a few professionals.
At the Doc Hale Elite Meet, 42 Tech athletes will be competing. Athletes to watch include Alex Thomas who currently owns the fifth fastest men’s 800m time in the ACC. Thomas will be competing in the distance medley relay and 4x400m relay. McKinley Thompson will also be one to watch in the men’s high jump.
On the women’s side, Taylor Grimes will be competing in the long jump. Grimes currently holds the 12th best mark in the ACC in the women’s long jump and the second best time in the women’s 60 hurdles in conference. Olivia Moore will be competing in the seeded pole vault event on Saturday; Moore currently has the sixth best women’s pole vault mark in the ACC. Shanty Papakosta rounds out top conference performers at the meet. Papakosta holds the third best mark in the women’s high jump.
Fegans is slated to do her race at 2:02 p.m. on Saturday. The Doc Hale Elite Meet begins at 5 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday.
