Jackets To Compete At Greater Louisville Classic

Sept. 30, 2010

Complete List Of Teams

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country team will return to the course for the first time in over two weeks when they head to the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic on October 2 at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park. The men will race first, kicking things off at 9:30 a.m. followed by the women’s race at 10:15 a.m.

“The Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic is a great opportunity for our team to continue preparing for the championship part of the season,” said head coach Alan Drosky. “The competition will be very good and many teams that are ranked in our south region will be present. The course is good, mostly flat and runs decently fast. And the field size will be the largest we’ve run in this season and will help to prepare us for a regional-type meet.

The Jackets are coming off of a good showing at the Georgia/Georgia Tech Dual Meet where Patrick Barron and Mary Kate DuBard each finished in first place for the first time in their careers. For their efforts, they were named the Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept. 20.

“Both teams are making good progress in practice,” continued Drosky. “We think we should see some personal bests and certainly a lot of seasonal bests. The men are running well as a group up front but we need to see a second group closing the gap between them and the front pack. On the women’s side, we have to see some good improvement in closing the gaps between each other.”

The location of the event, E.P. `Tom’ Sawyer State Park has been the site of five NAIA National Cross Country Championships, the 2007 BIG EAST Conference Championships, the 2006, 2007 and 2009 NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships.

The state park is home to the 2010 NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championship and will be the site for this year’s NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championships and the NCAA Division II National Championships.
