Jackets To Compete Among Nation's Best at VT Meet

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track & field teams are back in action this weekend at the Virginia Tech Elite Meet in Blacksburg, Va. The Jackets will compete among the nation’s best as the meet includes Florida’s No. 1 women’s and No. 2 men’s teams, along with the No. 2 women’s team in Georgia.

The meet features 15 teams in addition to the Jackets, including top 25 women’s teams No. 1 Florida, No. 2 Georgia, No. 6 Kentucky and No. 12 Florida State, and top 25 men’s team No. 2 Florida, No. 6 Georgia, No. 10 Virginia Tech, No. 19 Florida State and No. 25 Tennessee. Additional teams include Duke, East Carolina, Louisville, Miami, NC State, Pitt, North Carolina, Virginia and Wake Forest.

The Virginia Tech Elite Meet begins at 5 p.m. ET on Friday with the women’s triple jump, followed by a full schedule of field events, the last of which begins at 7 p.m. Day two of the meet starts with the women’s high jump at 11 a.m. Saturday morning and ends with women’s shot put at 2 p.m.

The first running event, the women’s mile run, is also scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday. Running events will continue until 8:30 p.m. Friday, and then begin again at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
