THE FLATS – Coming off a successful season, Georgia Tech women’s tennis begins the 2022 campaign ranked No. 12 in the ITA Preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll released on Wednesday.
Across all conferences, the Atlantic Coast Conference totaled the most teams in the top 25 with seven. Georgia Tech joins No. 3 North Carolina, No. 6 Duke, No. 7 Virginia, No. 8 NC State, No. 15 Florida State and No. 24 Miami in the preseason poll.
The Yellow Jackets finished the 2021 season with a 20-11 overall record and 8-5 ACC mark, advancing to the ACC Tournament Championship match for the seventh time in program history. Tech made its 21st consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the round of 16 for the 11th time in program history.
Tech returned eight letterwinners from last season’s squad and welcomed a pair of newcomers in freshmen Kylie Bilchev (Ipswich, England) and Kate Sharabura (Atlanta, Ga.). The Yellow Jackets competed in four fall tournaments and saw impressive results culminating in three Jackets earning national rankings. Bilchev led the Jackets in the singles rankings at No. 38 after going 7-2 during the fall, while teammates Ava Hrastar and Carol Lee joined her at No. 69 and No. 85, respectively. In doubles action, Tech’s pairing of Bilchev and Hrastar came in at No. 12 in the national rankings after posting a 7-1 ledger during the fall season.
Georgia Tech officially opens the 2022 season at the Gamecock Invitational, Jan. 15-17.
