Jackets Shine At Kentucky Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior Michael Massey (Asheboro, N.C.) won the high jump at the Kentucky Invitational with a clear of 6’10.25″ to lead the Georgia Tech track and field teams in day two of the meet inside Nutter Fieldhouse.

Junior Montrell Person (Merriville, Md.) tallied a NCAA Automatic qualifying time of 7.50 in the 60-meter hurdles, while Senior Amandi Rhett (Willingboro, N.J.) had a pair of runner-up finishes in the 60-meter dash (7.46) and 200 meters (24.17) to pace the Yellow Jackets.

Freshman Ashlee Kidd (St. Petersburg, Fla.) finished the 400 meters in third place with a NCAA Provisional time of 54.01. Fellow Tech rookie Jennifer Sims (Woodstock, Ga.) posted a time of 2:12.96 in the 800 meters to finish in fourth place.

Shot putters Zeb Sion (Pocatello, Idaho) and Jonathan Spillman (Austin, Texas) both tallied top 10 performances for the Jackets. Sion had a throw of 56’03.25 to finish fourth, while Spillman posted a mark of 52’7.50″ to finish eighth.

Sophomore Brandy Depland (Katy, Texas) and junior Shanta Smith (Miami, Fla.) placed in the top 10 in the long jump for Tech. Depland finished fourth in the event with a mark of 18’6.50″, while Smith finished seventh with a tally of 18’3.25″.

Junior Dana Rogers (East Point, Ga.) and sophomore Andriane Lapsley (San Antonio, Texas) were the final Tech competitors to crack the top 10 in the final day of competition. Rogers ended the 60-meter hurdles in seventh place with a time of 8.51. Lapsley tallied two top-10 finishes for the Jackets, finishing fifth in the 60-meter dash (7.60) and eighth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.53).

Tech will resume action next week in Clemson, S.C., for the Clemson Invitational Saturday, Jan. 24.
