Jackets Shine at Clemson Opener

CLEMSON, S.C. Chaunte Howard, Andriane Lapsley, Montrell Person and Dana Rogers tallied NCAA Provisional times at the Clemson Opener to lead the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams on Friday night.

Howard won the women’s high jump with a NCAA mark of 5’10.75″. Freshman Jerome Miller led the men in the high jump with a mark of 6’9″ to finish in third place.

Lapsley posted a personal-best mark of 7.43 to tally a NCAA provisional mark in the women’s 60-meter dash. The San Antonio, Texas, native tallied a career-best mark of 40’8.25″ in the triple jump to finish third and finished second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.54.

Person, an All-American in the 110-meter high hurdles, tallied a first-place finish in the men’s 60 hurdles with a NCAA provisional mark of 7.79. Rogers finished first in the women’s 60 hurdles with a NCAA provisional time of 8.36.

Sophomore All-American Ashlee Kidd registered a first-place finish in the women’s 200 meters with a time of 24.32.

In the mile, sophomores Mary Chind and Ann Armsby led the women with third and fourth-place finishes, tallying personal-best times of 5:15.01 and 5:16.75, respectively.

Junior Brandy Depland tallied a pair of top-three finishes for the Jackets in the women’s triple and long jump events. The Katy, Texas, native posted a mark of 41’4.50″ in the triple jump and tallied a mark of 19’2.50″ in the long jump.

Junior Misty Dirksen and freshman David Sanders led the Yellow Jackets in the 800 meters with times of 2:26.61 and 2:02.55, respectively.

The men’s Distance Medley Relay team of Rob Kuhn, Derek Hoye, Josh Hammel and Blake Fertitta finished first with a time of 10:35.82.

The men’s and women’s track and field teams will be in action again at the Kentucky Invitational on Jan. 14.
