WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Making its first appearance in the NCAA Championship semifinals since 2007, Georgia Tech women’s tennis will meet top-seeded and No. 2 Vanderbilt on Monday morning at 10 a.m. for a spot in the National Championship match. Both women’s tennis semifinal matches will take place at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
THE SCENE: Georgia Tech claimed a spot in the semifinals after a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over No. 14 UCLA Saturday night that extended into early Sunday morning. Over five hours after first serve, two rain delays and a move indoors, the Jackets rallied from a 3-1 deficit to top the Bruins in epic fashion. For the second straight match, Tech dropped the doubles point, but rebounded claiming four singles matches to clinch the win. Freshman Ida Jarlskog clinched the match for the Jackets from court four in a three-set battle.
Vanderbilt is making its fourth straight semifinal appearance in the NCAA Championships after blanking Florida State, 4-0, in the quarterfinals. Vanderbilt has defeated Alabama State, Clemson, Miami and Florida State to reach the semifinals, all by 4-0 decisions. The Commodores, reigning SEC Tournament champions, own a 26-3 overall record entering Monday’s match, having fallen only to Pepperdine, Northwestern and Mississippi State.
