CLEMSON, S.C. – In their final day of the Clemson Invitational, the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams ended with three first place showings and nine top-five finishes, Saturday.
Mykhail Chambers continued his success in the high jump during the 2010-11 indoor season with another first place high jump finish, this time with a height of 2.05 meters. Likewise, for the second-straight meet pole vaulters Joanna Wright and Erica Penk finished the meet in first and third place respectively. Wright improved her season best height to 3.95 meters while Penk earned a 3.65 meter showing.
Omar Morrison brought his success from day one into the final day of competition taking second place in the long jump with a launch of 6.88 meters. On the women’s side, Julienne McKee and Janelle McLeod went 4-5 in the long jump with distances of 5.75 meters and 5.58 meters respectively while Jasmine Kent rounded out the top-10 with a jump of 5.33 meters.
On the track, Perron Jones was also successful for the second-straight day, this time earning the victory in the 200 meter dash after coming in second in the 60 meter dash the day before. Jones crossed the line with a time of 22.57 seconds for the win. Joe Didia also took part in the 200 meter dash finishing in 18th with a time of 23.59.
On the women’s side, Jenae Anderson took fifth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.60 seconds as Taylor Davidson earned an 11th place showing in 25.93.
Three Tech athletes competed in the 800 meter run, two on the women’s side, one on the men’s. Kayla McKiernan and Monique Pate took home 13th and 16th respectively for the Lady Jackets with times of 2:36.05 and 2:38.53 while Jay Oatts came across 15th with a time of 2:03.47.
The final event of the day was the 4×400 meter relay. The Tech women earned the runner up spot in the race behind the No. 5 ranked Clemson women with a time of 3:54.60 to close out the meet.
The Jackets will be back in action next Friday and Saturday, January 14 and 15 at the Kentucky Invitational in Lexington, Ky.
