ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams will travel to Clemson, S.C., for the annual Orange & Purple Classic this Saturday, May 6. The outdoor meet is scheduled to begin at Noon with the women’s javelin throw and men’s hammer throw at Rock Norman Track.
Several Yellow Jackets have already qualified for the NCAA East Region Championships, May 26-27, in Greensboro, N.C.
Making the women’s region meet so far for Tech is Brandy Depland, Fatmata Fofanah, Kimery Hern, Ashlee Kidd, Andriane Lapsley, Elena Linn, Shantia Moss, April Phillips, Mellany Stanislaus and Jacqua Williams.
Depland has qualified for the Jackets in the long and triple jump events. She posted a mark of 20 feet, 5 ¼ inches, in the long jump at the outdoor ACC meet, and tallied a season-best leap of 43 feet, 5 ¾ inches, in the triple at the Walt Disney World Invitational.
Fofanah, Lapsley and Moss have all qualified in the 100-meter high hurdles. Moss leads the way with a personal-best time of 13.18 at the ACC Outdoor Championships, while Fofanah stands second with a PR time of 13.27. Lapsley ran a time of 13.49 at the outdoor ACC meet, and also holds region marks in the 100-meter dash (11.37) and 200m dash (23.23).
The women’s 4x100m relay team of Moss, Kidd, Lapsley and Williams ran a season-best time of 44.28 at the Penn Relays last weekend. Kidd also holds a region mark in the 400m with a time of 53.67.
Linn clocked a personal-record time of 10:43.24 in the 3,000-Steeplechase at the ACC Outdoor Championships to qualify for her first NCAA Region meet. Stanislaus posted a PR of 41 feet, ½ inches, in the triple jump at the Yellow Jacket Invitational.
Hern and Phillips qualified for Tech in the throwing events. Hern holds a qualifying mark of 157 feet, 6 inches, in the discus, while Phillips tallied a mark of 47 feet, 2 ½ inches, in the shot put.
