Jackets Return to Action Against No. 13 Clemson Wednesday

Feb. 23, 2010

ATLANTA – The 14th-ranked Georgia Tech Women’s Tennis team (6-2) returns to action Wednesday when it hosts No. 13 Clemson (10-2) at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. The Atlantic Coast Conference opener is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

“This is a bounce back week for us,” head coach Bryan Shelton said. “We learned something from playing at the [ITA National Team Indoor Championships]. We will test ourselves beginning with Clemson.

“Our goal is to treat each practice and match the same way. We are just excited for another opportunity to go out there and compete.”

This marks the 32nd meeting between the two programs with the Tigers holding a 24-7 advantage in the series. The Yellow Jackets have won four of the last seven meetings between the two teams.

Tech has not played a match since defeating Wisconsin, 6-1, on the final day of the 2010 ITA National Team Indoor Championships. No. 1 Irina Falconi was named the ACC Co-Player of the Week for her performance at the championships, after defeating the No. 2 player in the nation.

The Yellow Jackets will take a two-match road trip this weekend when they travel to No. 7 Notre Dame Saturday and No. 2 Northwestern Sunday. The Yellow Jackets and Fighting Irish will play at 11 a.m., while the Wildcats match will begin at 1 p.m.
