THE FLATS – After a strong fall season, Georgia Tech’s Carol Lee broke into the top 10 of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, the organization released on Wednesday. In total, four Yellow Jackets appeared in the singles rankings and Tech placed a doubles team in the final fall national rankings.

Lee, who was ranked No. 16 in the preseason singles rankings, posted a successful fall campaign to jump to No. 10. Lee went 9-4 in singles play, highlighted by a run to the semifinals of the ITA National Fall Championships. Lee sealed her place in the fall finale tournament by reaching the title match of the ITA Southeast Regionals. She went 5-1 in regional play, collecting all five wins in straight sets before falling in the final in three sets.

Lee was joined by three teammates in the singles rankings as freshman Alejandra Cruz was introduced into the rankings at No. 104. Mahak Jain sits at No. 109 and Kylie Bilchev comes in at No. 111. Making her collegiate debut this fall season, Cruz posted a 7-5 record in singles, competing in three tournaments. Cruz reached the consolation title match at the ITA Southeast Regionals, going 4-2 in the tournament, and closed out the fall with a 2-1 ledger at the Tennessee Fall Invitational.

Jain produced a 7-3 singles record in fall action, highlighted by a run to the quarterfinals of the ITA Southeast Regionals. Bilchev rounded out Tech’s representatives in singles rankings after going 5-3 in the fall. Competitive Drive Initiative
In a unified endeavor, Georgia Tech, the Georgia Tech Foundation, Georgia Tech athletics and the Alexander-Tharpe Fund have come together to accelerate funding for student-athlete scholarships with the launch of the Competitive Drive Initiative. The initiative kicks off with the Accelerate GT Match Program, where any new gift to the A-T Fund’s Athletic Scholarship Fund made through Dec. 31 will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Georgia Tech Foundation, up to $2.5 million. Should Accelerate GT reach its $2.5 million fundraising goal, the matching gift would result in a $5 million impact for Georgia Tech athletics.
