ATLANTA – Chris Bosh had 21 points and nine rebounds as Georgia Tech rallied past underdog Elon 66-47 Wednesday night.
The Phoenix, a member of the Big South Conference, has lost 10 of 11 after a 4-1 start. They lost by 42 to Wake Forest earlier in the month, but gave the Yellow Jackets (9-6) all they could handle for most of the game.
Georgia Tech took the lead for good on a three-point play by Bosh with 16:17 left in the game, then put Elon away later with a 15-1 run.
B.J. Elder, the Yellow Jackets’ leading scorer, was held scoreless in the first half but got going during the spurt, scoring 10 points. He gave the Yellow Jackets their first 10-point lead with a steal and dunk with 7:46 left, and they cruised from there.
Elon, which shot 52 percent in the first half, had trouble even getting off shots after the break, often forcing up perimeter shots with the shot clock running down. The Phoenix also made 23 turnovers, including 14 in the opening 20 minutes.
Elder finished with 12 and Ed Nelson added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Yellow Jackets, who played their final nonconference game of the season. They return to the Atlantic Coast Conference on Saturday at No. 3 Duke. Tech is 2-2 in the ACC after a loss to Wake Forest.
Georgia Tech shot 35 percent in the first half and trailed 27-26. Bosh had 14 points and Nelson seven, but the rest of the team shot a combined 2-for-18. Third-leading scorer Marvin Lewis was held without a point, missing all five of his shots.
The Phoenix shot 52 percent and led despite 14 turnovers, but made only 7-of-28 in the second half.
Scottie Rice led Elon with 10 points.
