Jackets Rack Up 12 More Wins in Bulldog Scramble

Oct. 10, 2009

Athens, Ga. – Miguel Muguruza, Dusan Miljevic and Dean O’Brien remained undefeated on the weekend as each recorded a singles win Saturday, and Georgia Tech won seven of eight singles matches on the second day of the Bulldog Scramble at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

Tech improved to 16-5 in singles in the event. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets captured five of eight doubles matches to improve to 7-5 on the weekend.

“We backed up yesterday’s performance well,” said head coach Kenny Thorne. “Everybody competed very well again. We need to solidify some things and be consistent with our singles, and we did that in the morning. The guys showed that they can build on something.”

Muguruza defeated Kevin Galloway of Clemson, 7-6, 5-7, 6-3, Miljevic made quick work of the Tigers’ Moritz Dettinger, 6-0, 6-4, and O’Brien took a 6-4, 6-2 win over Wesley Moran, also of Clemson, 6-4, 6-2. Each improved to 3-0 for the weekend.

Juan Spir’s 6-3, 6-4 win over Clemson’s Robert Pietrucha gave the Yellow Jackets a sweep of four matches against the Tigers Saturday, and a 5-0 record against them for the weekend. Doug Kenny defeated Georgia’s Will Oliver in three sets, and Magin Ortiga bested the Bulldogs’ Alex Hill in straight sets, giving the Jackets a 5-3 record against Georgia for the weekend.
