Jackets Prepare for ACC Outdoor Championships

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech track and field program begins the postseason competition this week with the ACC Outdoor Championships. The conference meet will take place in Raleigh, N.C. from Thursday, May 11 to Saturday, May 13.

Tech heads into the conference championships after a successful outdoor season which included two home meets, three new school records, several first-place finishes and an ACC weekly award.

The Jackets start competition on Thursday with Jamir Gibson in the men’s hammer throw at 2 p.m. Tech will begin the track events at 6 p.m. with Amanda Ehrenhalt, Lydia Troupe and Anna Witherspoon in the women’s 400-meter hurdle preliminaries.

Among the Jackets to look out for this week is Gibson who is nationally-ranked for his program leading marks in the men’s discus and shot put. Zach Jaeger has also been a standout for the men’s team in the with a top 20 NCAA and top five ACC time in the 3000m steeplechase. Tech also has John Watkins and Cameron O’Neal who have previously been recognized for their successes in the triple and long jump by the conference.

ACC Indoor High Jump Champion, Shanty Papakosta, will also compete this week in the hopes to secure another individual title. Other members of the women’s team to look out for are Helena Lindsay in the 3000m steeplechase, Liz Galarza in the women’s 10,000m and Sheleah Harris in the sprints.

During the chamipionships, Tech will several stiff competition as many of the ACC programs remain ranked in the national poll.
