Jackets Prep for ACC Outdoor Championships

THE FLATS  — The Georgia Tech track and field team heads to Charlottesville, Va., for the 2019 ACC Outdoor Championships on May 9-11 at Lannigan Field.

A total of 47 student-athletes will make the trip including Avery BartlettBria Matthews, and Jeanine Williams.

The Jackets will battle it out with some of the best teams in the country including No. 23 Virginia and No. 25 Clemson on the men’s side, as well as No. 11 Florida State, and No. 16 Miami on the women’s side.

Last weekend, the Jackets did not compete in order to rest for the ACC Outdoor Championships, however, the week prior the Jackets saw two school records broken when the squad was split up between the Penn Relays and the Torrin Lawrence Invite.

Hana Herndon broke the school record in the women’s 5k when she competed at the Penn Relays, finishing in fourth with a time of 16:12.03. Her time bested the previous record held by Renee Metivier which she held for 17 years.

At the Torrin Lawerence Invite,  the men’s 4 x 100 relay record was broken thanks to the effort from Tyson SpearsMaurice Simpson, Ryan Thomas, and Daniel Pietsch. The relay team broke a 32-year old record turning in a first-place finish with a time of 40.17.

The ACC Championships will begin Thursday, May 9 at 12:30 p.m. with the men’s 100m event and live results will be available throughout the three-day meet along with a live broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
