Jackets poised for ACC Championships

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech swimming and diving is set to compete at the ACC Championships from Tuesday to Saturday hosted at McAuley Aquatic Center. The last time the ACC Swimming and Diving Championships were hosted at McAuley Aquatic Center was in 2016.

The action begins on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with prelims followed by finals at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday will all follow the same timing with prelims starting at 10 a.m. and finals starting at 6:00 p.m.

Also on Saturday will be senior recognition featuring all of the seniors competing at the ACC Championships.

The Yellow Jackets look to be competitive across multiple events. Individually, Tech is in podium contention in the men’s 3-meter diving, men’s 500 free, men’s 200 IM, men’s 100 fly, men’s 200 free, women’s 3-meter diving, men’s 200 fly, men’s 100 breast, men’s platform, men’s 1650 free, men’s 200 back, men’s 200 breast and women’s platform.

Camryn Hidalgo has top 10 scores on every board in the ACC. Hidalgo ranks third on the platform, fifth on the 3-meter board and eighth on the 1-meter board. Tech women divers hold three of the top four highest diving scores on the platform in Carmen Woodruff (2nd), Hidalgo (3rd) and Anna Bradescu (4th). On the men’s side Ruben Lechuga ranks fourth on the 3-meter board and eighth on the platform while teammate Allen Mann ranks fourth on the platform.

At last year’s ACC Championships, Lechuga earned two diving medals placing second on the 3-meter board and third on the 1-meter board. Hidalgo took home third place on the 3-meter board for the women.

In swimming, Tech hopes to improve a two gold medal performance from last year’s conference championship. Caio Pumputis won the 200 IM and Batur Ünlü won the 200 free. Pumputis also took home silver medal in the 200 breast and Christian Ferraro secured the bronze in the 200 fly. Rounding out the medal performances were the men’s 200 and 400 medley relay teams who placed second.

The Yellow Jackets will feature many swimmers with top 10 times in conference. They are:

  • Batur Ünlü – 3rd (200 free, 1:33.79), 4th (500 free, 4:17.38)
  • Mert Kilavuz – 1st (1650 free, 14:42.62), 5th (500 free, 4:17.59)
  • Clark Wakeland – 9th (500 free, 4:19.17)
  • Berke Saka – 10th (100 back, 46.77), 3rd (200 back, 1:40.89), 6th (200 IM, 1:45.29)
  • Kyle Barone – 8th (200 back, 1:42.90)
  • Caio Pumputis – 7th (100 breast, 52.96), 9th (200 breast, 1:55.32)
  • Christian Ferraro – 5th (100 Fly, 45.61), 1st (200 fly, 1:40.33)
  • McKenzie Campbell – 10th (400 IM, 4:12.63)

These times rank among some of the best nationally, Berke Saka owns the eighth best time in the 200 back, Mert Kilavuz has the eighth best time in the 1650 free and Christian Ferraro has the best time in the 200 fly and the 14th best time in the 100 fly of all NCAA swimmers.

Swimming at the ACC Championships will be many of Georgia Tech’s all-time greatest performers. Below is a list of our athletes who have top three times and scores in program history:
