ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech softball team opens its season at the Mardi Gras Classic softball tournament this weekend, Saturday, Feb. 7 and Sunday, Feb. 8 in Monroe, La. The softball tourney will host five teams including Tech – No. 9 Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, Kentucky and Gardner-Webb.

“We’re looking forward to getting our season underway this weekend,” said head coach Ehren Earleywine. “The preseason practices have gone very well and our players are ready to play against someone other than themselves.

“No doubt we will have areas of weakness and we’re going to make some mistakes early on, but the goal is to learn from our errors early in the season in hopes of a strong finish down the stretch.”

The Yellow Jackets will face Gardner-Webb and Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., while competing against the Wildcats and ninth-ranked Ragin’ Cajuns on Sunday at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. CT.

Tech will return to Atlanta for its home opener on Saturday, Feb. 14 against Chattanooga. The doubleheader will start at Noon and will be played at Glenn Field. All home softball games can be followed on www.ramblinwreck.com.
