ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams will head back to the course when they take part in the Charlotte Invitational this Friday, September 30 at McAlpine Park. The women will begin things with a 4 p.m. start time and will be followed by the men’s race to kick off at 4:30 p.m.
The field will be comprised of 43 women’s teams and 36 men’s teams as the women will run a 5k while the men tackle an 8k.
Regionally ranked squads from Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Furman, Liberty, Tech and Georgia will take part as well as SEC squad South Carolina and a strong USC Upstate team.
The Jackets are coming off of a fourth (men’s) and seventh (women’s) place performance at the Clemson Invitational back on September 16, the site of the 2011 ACC Cross Country Championships.
The men have been led this season by senior DJ McMillan and junior Patrick Barron who have finished a combination of one-two in both of the races this season. The women’s team will look for a leader to step up in place of Mary Kate DuBard who has been sidelined for the first couple of meets. Freshman Katie Vance took the top spot among Tech runners at Clemson while Mary Kownack paced the women in the season opener at Georgia.
