STARKVILLE, Miss. – Strong play continued for the Yellow Jackets on day two of the John Cade Invitational as Georgia Tech pocketed seven singles wins on Saturday. Ava Hrastar and Kylie Bilchev also collected their third doubles win of the weekend.
Action started with one round of doubles play in the morning as Hrastar and Bilchev continued their dominating presence, remaining undefeated in the tournament with a 6-3 win over Memphis’ Emily Meyer and Alisha Reayer.
Turning to singles play, Hrastar and Carol Lee each were victorious in the maroon draw. No. 65 Hrastar battled Mississippi State’s No. 22 Emma Antonaki and the opponents fought to the final point. Hrastar won in straight-sets, but the Yellow Jacket earned every point as both sets came down to a tiebreaker. The sophomore proved victorious, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (6). Lee faced Camila Romero of Memphis and cruised to a 6-2, 6-4 triumph.
In the white draw, Bilchev will compete for a flight title on Sunday after the freshman downed Anaelle Leclercq-Ficher of Ole Miss, 6-3, 7-6 (2). Joining Bilchev seeking a flight title, Mahak Jain cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Monique Woog (Memphis) in the grey draw. She will face Tamara Racine (MSU) on Sunday. The final Jacket that moved into the championship round, Rosie Garcia Gross will challenge Elysia Pool (Ole Miss) on Sunday after upending Blessing Nwazuzu (Xavier), 6-1, 6-1.
Georgia Tech also witnessed another pair of Jackets pocket singles wins on Saturday as Monika Dedaj rebounded after dropping the first set to Emily Meyer (Memphis) to collect a three-set win, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Meanwhile, teammate Sophia Sassoli cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Natalie Moyer of Xavier.
Play will conclude on Sunday with the final round of singles action.
