Jackets in Singles Quarters, Doubles Semis at ITA Regionals

Gainesville, Fla. – Men’s tennis continued a strong showing at the ITA Southeast Regionals advancing to the main draw doubles semifinals, main draw singles quarterfinals and main draw singles consolation quarterfinals.

The No. 31 player in the nation Andres Martin advanced to the quarterfinals of singles play on Saturday as he beat Tao Castillo of Georgia Southern 6-4, 6-3, and Bojan Jankulvoski of Miami 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-1. Martin will face No. 15 Phillip Henning in the quarterfinals on Sunday.

Martin and his doubles partner Marcus McDaniel form the No. 8 doubles pairing in the nation and have advanced to the semifinals of the regionals after defeating Jalif/Jankulovski of Miami by a score of 8-3. Martin/McDaniel face Andrade/Siimar of Florida on Sunday.

In main draw play, Keshav Chopra beat Bruno Oliveira of USF, 7-6(2), 6-2, before falling to JC Roddick of UCF, 6-4, 6-4.

In main draw consolation play, Chen Dong secured two victories. The first win came against Nilo Duarte of UNF, 7-5, 6-0. Dong followed this victory with a win over Pol Del Castillo of Georgia Southern, 6-1, 6-0. Dong will compete on Sunday hoping to advance to the consolation bracket finals.

Pablo Schelcher dropped his singles match against Dominik Barton, 6-3, 6-2.

Play resumes on Sunday as Tech players hope to make it to the finals in their respective draws.
