Jackets Host Pair of Key ACC Matches This Weekend

ATLANTA – The Yellow Jackets return to Atlanta for a pair of key conference matches this weekend at O’Keefe Gym on the campus of Georgia Tech. The Jackets (8-4, 0-2 ACC) will host Florida State (9-3, 3-0 ACC) Friday at 7 p.m. before meeting Miami (4-8, 1-2 ACC) Saturday at 7 p.m.

Georgia Tech will be seeking its first Atlantic Coast Conference victory of the season this weekend after dropping their first two matches on the road at Wake Forest and Duke last Friday and Saturday.

Tech’s conference home opener will feature two of the nation’s top-hitting teams as Florida State is ranked fourth nationally with a .312 hitting percentage while the Jackets are 19th in the country, hitting .280. The match will also feature seven players that rank in the top-10 in the ACC in hitting percentage, including Florida State’s Jessica Skower, who is leading the league with a .380 hitting clip, and Tech’s Erin Birmingham, who is second in the league, hitting .360.

Friday evening’s match will be broadcast on a tape-delay basis at a day and time to be named later, while live video of Saturday’s match is available by going to gatech.playonsports.tv. Livestats for both matches will be available at www.ramblinwreck.com, and radio broadcasts can be found at www.wrek.org or on WREK-Radio, 91.1 FM in Atlanta.

The Georgia Tech offense is being led by sophomore outside hitter Talisa Kellogg (3.37 kpg) and run by sophomore setter Alli Niekamp (11.82 apg/2.22dpg). Rookie Chrissy DeMichelis stands second on the team with 2.95 kpg and junior outside hitter Ulrike Stegemann is second in kills (126) and hitting percentage (.341).

The Yellow Jacket defense is anchored by senior libero Abby Showers (4.0 dpg), Michelle Kandell (2.07 dpg) and junior outside hitter Lindsey Gray (2.30 dpg/2.57 kpg), who leads the team with 0.45 service aces per game this season. Birmingham leads the team with 39 blocks (1.00 pg) this season, while sophomore Callie Miller has 36 (1.00 pg) for the Jackets.
