THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech track and field teams will travel to Columbia, S.C. for the South Carolina Invite this weekend. Competition will take place on Friday, Feb. 3 and Saturday Feb. 4.
Last time out, Tech competed at Clemson’s Bob Pollock Invite. The Jackets recorded several top three performances at the meet.
On day one of the invite, the men’s and women’s distance medley relays earned second-place finishes. The men’s group, comprised of Joshua Williams, Parker Buchheit, Jeremiah LaDuca and Nick Nyman ran a time of 9:50.80. On the women’s side, Riley Perlakowski, Ilene Soleyn, Kayla Rose and Helena Lindsay recorded a time of 11:34.03.
In the field events, John Watkins placed second in the men’s triple jump and Shanty Papakosta placed third in the women’s high jump. Also, Omar Arnaout and Matthew Mazzacano recorded personal-best marks in the men’s high jump and men’s pole vault.
Two Jackets ran personal-best times in the men’s 3,000 meters. James Cragin crossed the finish line in 11th place and John Higinbotham finished in 16th place. In the women’s 3,000 meters, Lindsay and Kate Jortberg were top performers for Tech with seventh and eighth-place finishes.
In the most recent USTFCCCA South Region TFRI, the men are ranked at No. 10 and the women are ranked at No. 12. The men have jumped up five spots in the rankings since last week’s release.
