Jackets Head To NCAA East Regionals

ATLANTA – Eleven members of the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track and field teams will make their way to Jacksonville, Fla. for the NCAA East Regionals this weekend. Eight men and three women will be competing in nine different events for the Jackets at the meet. The regionals begin on Thursday, May 24 and run until Saturday, May 26 at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida.

For the Yellow Jackets, the meet will officially begin at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday night when Julienne McKee takes part in the long jump. McKee will be followed by the First Round of the 400m dash which Antonio McKay will compete in at 7:20 p.m., the 800m run at 8:10 p.m. that will have two Yellow Jackets, Shawn Roberts and Rick Scheff, and the day will conclude at 9 p.m. with the running of the 10,000m featuring current school record holder D.J McMillan.

On Friday, the day will begin at 4:30 p.m. with Jonathan Gardner and the triple jump. Melanie Akwulewill take part in the first track event of the day competing in the First Round of the 100m hurdles at 5:30 p.m. If McKay, Roberts and Scheff qualify on their first day of action the trio would be back in action Friday night at 6 and 7 p.m. competing in the 400m dash and 800m run quarterfinals respectively.

Saturday will round out the competition for Tech. Nikita Kirillov and Aaron Unterberger will start the day off at 11 a.m. in the pole vault. Jhanelle McLeod and McKee will compete at 4:30 p.m. in the triple jump, Mykhail Chamberswill take part in the high jump at 5 p.m. and if able to move on, Akwule would round out the competition at 7:20 p.m. with the 100mhurdles quarterfinals.
