THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech track and field teams are back in action this weekend for two days of competition at the Clemson Invite. The meet will begin Friday, Jan. 13 at 2 p.m. with the women’s long jump. Competition will continue Saturday, Jan. 14, starting with the women’s high jump at 10:30 a.m.
Tech began the indoor season at the Clemson Opener in December where several Jackets earned top performances. Jameson Miller, Parker Buchheit and Jeremiah LaDuca swept the men’s 600m with two of the runners recording personal best times in the event.
Two Jackets placed in the women’s high jump with Shanty Papkosta finishing first and Carla du Plessis finishing in second place. On the men’s side, Omar Arnaout earned a third-place finish.
Sheleah Harris was one of Tech’s standouts at the meet. Harris won the women’s 200m, placed second in the 60-meter finals and recorded career best times in both events.
Three Jackets earned second-place finishes in their respective events. John Watkins took home second in the men’s triple jump, Mikayla Williams recorded a second-place mark in the women’s long jump and Lydia Troupe finished second in the women’s 400m.
Along with the athletes who previously competed at the Clemson Opener, Tech will have a large group of talent heading to the meet this weekend. Jamir Gibson will represent the Jackets in the men’s weight throw and shot put. Harrison Fultz (Men’s 600m) and Allie Walker (Women’s 1000m) are two of Tech’s returning mid distance runners that will be competing this weekend.
