Jackets Get Another Relay To NCAA Championship

March 9, 2014

THE FLATS – As the Yellow Jacket Championship Qualifier wrapped up Sunday night at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center, Tech’s 200 medley relay achieved an NCAA B-cut to lock up an NCAA Championship spot.

Earlier in the day, junior Andrew Kosic led off the Jackets’ 200 free relay and his lightning-fast split of 19.49 broke his own school record of 19.51 that he set at last week’s ACC Championship.

In Sunday night’s finals, Tech’s 200 medley relay of freshman Taylor Wilson, sophomore Ricky Lehner, junior Nico van Duijn and junior Andrew Kosic put down a time of 1:26.73 that was good for an NCAA B-cut.

With van Duijn previously posting an A-cut Saturday in the 200 fly and the Jackets already having achieved an A-cut in the 800 free relay during the ACC Championship, Tech’s 200 medley relay also automatically qualifies to the NCAA Championship.

van Duijn is one five Jackets headed to Austin, Texas for the NCAA Championship March 27-29, along with Kosic, Wilson, Lehner, and Mats Westergren in the relays.

The Yellow Jackets will have to wait for Thursday’s NCAA selection announcement for other possible individual qualifiers.
