Live Stats: at North Carolina | at Duke
THE FLATS – Georgia Tech men’s tennis concludes its road trip against four nationally ranked foes from the state of North Carolina this weekend as it takes on No. 8 North Carolina and No. 20 Duke.
The Yellow Jackets (5-13, 1-8 ACC) will face the Tar Heels (16-4, 7-1 ACC) on Saturday, April 14 before turning around and playing the Blue Devils (13-10, 4-4 ACC) on Sunday, April 15.
North Carolina enters this weekend on a three-match winning streak, taking six of its last seven matches overall. All with 6-1 final tallies, the Tar Heels dispatched Virginia, Louisville and Boston College as they improved to 11-2 at home this season. They’re led by the No. 2 singles player in the country in William Blumberg, who currently sports a 13-3 record at the No. 1 and is 7-1 in the ACC. In a one-two punch, Benjamin Siguoin currently holds an 11-2 at the 2 spot as well as a No. 33 ranking.
The Tar Heels also tout the No. 1 doubles team in the country in Blumberg and Robert Kelly. The doubles tandem currently hold a 12-3 record overall, including a 5-0 ACC mark.
Duke enters this weekend on a two-match losing streak, having dropped three of its last five. The Blue Devils have faced Louisville, Notre Dame and Virginia in their last three before finishing out their home schedule this weekend. They’re led in singles by Nicolas Alvarez at the No. 1 where he’s currently 7-2 and ranked 16th in the country. Robert Levine has also put up good numbers for Duke, currently 5-1 in the ACC playing mainly in the 4-6 positions.
Sean Sculley and Nick Stachowiak lead the doubles charge with a No. 81 ranking as they’ve fought to a 6-9 record at the 1 spot, but are 1-3 in conference and 3-7 in their last 10 overall.
Junior Chris Yun led Georgia Tech last weekend as he continues to ride his hot streak. Yun is 5-1 since he re-entered the lineup on March 18, currently enjoying a five-match winning streak. Elijah Melendez was also able to get back on track against first-ranked Wake Forest, grabbing a victory at the No. 5 spot.
The Jackets’ 21st-ranked doubles team of Michael Kay and Carlos Divar also suffered a tough setback last weekend, falling to 15-7 on the season.
