ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech softball team will host Furman for a 2 p.m. non-conference doubleheader at Glenn Field in its home opener on Tuesday, Feb. 17. The Yellow Jackets stand at 3-1 on the season, while the Lady Paladins are 1-4.

“We are looking forward to getting back into game-action on Tuesday versus Furman,” said head coach Ehren Earleywine. “It’s always a plus to play at home but at this point we are just looking forward to playing again. These girls have worked hard and are ready to showcase their skills and set the tone for our season ahead.”

Leading the way offensively for Tech is junior Katie Donovan (Marietta, Ga.), sophomore Lauren Schlechte (St. Louis, Mo.) and senior Tara Knudsen (Thornton, Colo.).

Donovan leads the team with a .417 batting average. The second baseman went 3-for-3 against No. 9 Louisiana-Lafayette and tallied a hit in each of the last three Yellow Jacket games. Donovan was named to the Mardi Gras Classic All-Tournament team.

Schlechte ranks second on the Tech squad with four RBIs through four games this season. The third baseman/catcher hit .400 at the tournament, with a home run and three runs scored. Schlechte was named to the all-tournament team.

Knudsen led the team in walks with seven a week ago. The All-American shortstop blasted one home run and slugged a double, driving in two runs for the Jackets.

Junior pitcher Jessica Sallinger (Kennesaw, Ga.) leads the way for Tech on the mound. Sallinger fired her fourth career no-hitter in her first outing of the season against Louisiana-Monroe and followed that up with a three-hitter against the ninth-ranked Ragin’ Cajuns. She is 2-0, with a 0.58 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 15 innings pitched.

The Rambling Wreck will remain in Atlanta as they head to Georgia State for a softball tournament, Feb. 21-22. The Yellow Jackets will open up with tournament host Georgia State at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning. All the games can be followed on www.ramblinwreck.com.
